As a project of the Edmonton Coalition on Housing and Homelessness (ECOHH), the 9th annual Homefest is a creative means of educating and mobilizing Edmontonians to get involved in demanding the human right to housing for every person. Homefest 2011 will focus on the theme of “home” and highlights the gifts of the Canadian Aboriginal community through music, spoken word, artwork, song, and agency displays. This year’s event features Richard Wagamese (Ojibway author of One Native Life), local female trio Asani, drummers Lyle Tootoosis and Carol Fraser, musicians Phyllis Sinclair, Jay Gilday and Jason Leo Tate, and displays of local artwork.
Each new day brings us closer to Homes for All. In Alberta, we have the resources, knowledge and skills to make sure everyone has a decent place to call home in a strong, healthy community. If you want to know more about Homefest 2011 or about local housing issues, check out www.homefest.ca.
